The Chair of Agora at the conference of World Arthritis Day 2019 in Romania
Ovidiu Constantinescu, the Chairman of AGORA Platform, attended a press conference in Bucharest, as part of the World Arthritis Day 2019 events organized in Romania by the Romanian League against Rheumatism. The event took place at the National Clinical Center for Rheumatic Diseases “Dr. Ion Stoia” in Bucharest, on the 14th of October 2019.
Answering to questions from the journalists, Ovidiu Constantinescu stressed the importance of the European-wide “Don’t delay, connect today” campaign in ensuring rapid access to proper RA treatment and ultimately keeping RA patients mobile, able to work and enjoying life to the full. Furthermore, Ovidiu Constantinescu stated the need for all the national leagues and umbrella organizations, such AGORA, to raise awareness of the RA patients’ contribution to the community if they are able to carry on working, be it paid or voluntary work.
Ovidiu Constantinescu: “AGORA and its national partners, such as the Romanian League against Rheumatism are doing a tremendous work in putting the patient at the heart of the medical care. Acting together with health-care professionals, with researchers and innovators we, the patient leagues, are trying to insure access to the best treatment available as the key element in keeping the RA patients active and employable. Work is beneficial for everyone: the state, the community and the patient alike and the money spent on medical care should not be considered as costs but as investments.”
According to data, 600,000 Romanians are affected by RMDs.
